Installation on BrightSign Devices

Prerequisites

Before starting, make sure you have:

  • A BrightSign player (HD, XD, XT, LS, or 4K series) with updated firmware.
  • A microSD card (recommended: 8GB or larger, Class 10).
  • A monitor or display with an available HDMI input.
  • An Ethernet cable (recommended) or a Wi-Fi dongle (if using Wi-Fi connection).
  • A computer for the initial setup.
  • An active Internet connection for software download and registration.

1. Prepare the microSD card

  1. Download the application.
  2. Take a microSD card and make sure it is empty.
  3. Copy the downloaded autorun.zip file into the root folder of the microSD card, without extracting it.

2. Player connection and initialization

Depending on the network connection mode, follow the corresponding procedure:

Wired connection (Ethernet in DHCP)

  1. Connect the device to the network via Ethernet cable.
  2. Insert the microSD card into the device and wait for it to reboot (or power it on if it was off).
  3. Once the application has been installed, an activation phrase will appear on the screen.
  4. Use the activation phrase or the device serial number to register it in your account.

Wi-Fi connection or custom network settings

  1. Activate the device using its serial number.
  2. Download the configuration file config.brs.
  3. Copy the config.brs file into the root folder of the microSD card.
  4. Insert the microSD card into the device and wait for it to reboot (or power it on if it was off).

3. BrightSign firmware version

Before proceeding, make sure the device firmware is correct:

  • Series 4 or earlier: during installation, the application automatically updates the firmware to version 8.4.14 if it is newer than the one already installed.
  • Series 5: manually download and install the latest firmware from the BrightSign website.

4. Activate the player on Pharmadigital

  • Write down the activation phrase or the device serial number displayed on screen.
  • Log in to the Pharmadigital Dashboard from your computer.
  • Go to Players → Manage → Add.
  • Enter the required information and the activation phrase or serial number.

Activation via serial number does not require the player to be already configured: it will automatically link to the dashboard as soon as the configuration is complete.


5. Final checks

  • Player status: from the management section, verify that the player shows as “Running”.
  • Content test: assign a test playlist to confirm playback is working correctly.
  • Diagnostics: access the player’s Diagnostic Web Server by entering its IP address into your browser.

Troubleshooting

  • Player not showing online?

    • Double-check the network connection (Ethernet/Wi-Fi).
    • Verify that the configuration parameters are correct.
    • Ensure the endpoints/ports required by Pharmadigital are open (contact IT if needed).
  • Player does not complete initialization?

    • Reformat the microSD card and repeat the setup.
  • No image on the display?

    • Check that the HDMI cable is properly connected and that the display is set to the correct input.
    • Verify the resolution settings on the player.
